Seeing daily glimpses into what intuitive eating really looks like is always helpful because it's a practice and is never about perfection!
EVERY WOMAN HAS THEIR OWN UNIQUE STORY. CAN YOU TELL US ‘YOUR STORY’ WITH FOOD OR BODY IMAGE?
The long version of my story is posted on my blog. The short version is that I struggled with counting calories, cyclical dieting, and body image issues for a good 6-7 years. I became free from dieting 5 years ago, and have NEVER felt happier!
Counting Calories, while it worked for me for about a month, made me feel trapped, distracted by dieting, and identified by my body weight. This was NOT a fun place to be. Now, I eat intuitively, I listen to my body, and I take care of her because I LOVE her.
WHAT ARE THE TWO BIGGEST LESSONS YOU LEARNED IN ORDER TO HEAL DISORDERED EATING AND BODY SHAME?
That I CAN trust my body & that she WANTS to feel good. If I fully commit to listening to her & ditch dieting for good, she will get me to my most optimal place (which, she did & has maintained for years!)
IF YOU COULD WRITE A LETTER TO YOUR FORMER SELF, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT HER TO KNOW?
My gosh... there are SO many things that I would want my former self to know... It makes me sad... I would want her to know that there was so much LIFE going on around her, that dieting was distracting her from. Although, now looking back, I feel that I probably USED dieting for this reason.
There were a lot of things going on during that time that I didn't want to pay attention to.
I would want to tell my former self that I was beautiful, and that my identity/worth was NOT dependent on what I weighed. I would tell her that people like people for their personalities & their joy & their vulnerability... not by their bodies!
I would want her to know that where I am today (FREE from dieting, HAPPY, & HEALTHY) was possible. I truly didn't believe it was at the time. There are SO many things I would want her to know, and these are a few of them.
LET’S CHAT TOOLS. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS, TOOLS, APPS, COACHES, ETC. THAT HAVE HELPED YOU ALONG YOUR JOURNEY.
My favorite books are 'Why Weight' by Geneen Roth and 'Intuitive Eating' by Evelyn Tribole & Elyse Resch. With this, my favorite tool is learning to listen to your body. I myself am a Health Coach, and I help women get to the exact place that I myself am in today.
I have the tools, I know they work because I used them myself, and have now seen them work with my clients.
WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED, ALIVE, AND VIBRANT THESE DAYS?
Honestly? The first thing I thought of was my Health Coaching practice (I'm smiling as I type this). Getting to now work on what I'm passionate about is extremely fulfilling.
I love watching women's lives transform over a the time that we work together. I am also inspired and kept alive by being outdoors, journaling, connecting with God, and surrounding myself with supportive, nice people.
Oh, and cooking!
Favorite place… My favorite place is San Francisco California. I am not sure I'd want to live there (it's a bit too crowded for me), but I sure do love vacationing there! It's only 3 hours north of where I currently live in CA.
Bucket list travel location… I would love to travel to Italy one day with someone who has already been. I've also never been to Hawaii, so I'd like to go there. California is full of beauty, and I've spent a lot of my life traveling through my own state. I'd like to see OTHER places in the US as well. In May, I'll be traveling to NYC for the first time. I'm excited to see it!
Favorite way to move your body… I LOVE walking, Step, and the elliptical. I have also fallen in love with weight lifting over the last year.
Quote you love? My favorite quote is a verse. "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." - Psalm 118:24. This is one of the first verses that stuck out to me when I first dove into the bible. It helps to remind me to be thankful & joyful in each day.

I'm working with my one on one Clients, a group program this February, and I just released my eBook, 'Finding Balance.' AND... drumroll... THIS March my friend Simi & I will be releasing an entirely virtual, life-time membership, go-at-your-own-pace Health Coaching Program called FINALLY FREE. This is the project of our DREAMS, and we cannot wait to launch it this March (2015)!
